St. Anthony High School
“Friar of the Month”
St. Anthony High School’s “Friar of the Month” program strives to celebrate individual success and achievement by fostering a culture that values personal, social, and academic successes while heightening awareness of student contributions to the school community.
These students have demonstrated significant qualities that can range from determination and persistence in academics, generosity towards others, caring and friendly to all, leadership, and any other admirable trait. A selected committee has reviewed all applicants and chose one student per grade level each month. The “Friars of the Month” for February are:
9th Grade / Jonathan Cullen
Jonathan was nominated by Ms. Henderson. Ms. Henderson notes that “Jon always strives to do his best in and out of class. He is always considerate of others and is respectful to all of his classmates.” Congratulations Jonathan.
10th Grade / Symone Cameron
Symone was nominated by Mr. Dinielli and Mr. Kochanski.
Mr. Dinielli nominated Symone for “academic excellence and for consistently improving her grade point average. Symone achieved First Honors in the first marking period, and then motivated herself to excel in the second marking period by achieving Distinguished Honors.”
Mr. Kochanski states that Symone “has become one of the hardest working students in my history classes. She shows great confidence in her work and is a no-nonsense student who exhibits great determination to be successful. She is consistent, trustworthy, and respectful of me and her peers.” Congratulations Symone.
11th Grade / Terrell Gourdine
Terrell was nominated by Mr. Duncan for his leadership and class attendance. Mr. Duncan states “Terrell is a student who would likely be the first to admit that getting to school on time can be a challenge, and that by admitting this, he has demonstrated his conscious effort and decision to not allow tardiness to become an issue. He arrives each morning rearing and ready to go. He is prepared with his materials and ready to engage day in and day out. His winning attitude and desire to excel is so infectious, that it has set the tone for the rest of the class. He has also taken on the role as class tutor, where he will tutor and encourage a struggling classmate.” Congratulations Terrell.
12th Grade / Michele Alvarenga
Michele was nominated by Mr. Lillis for her “willingness to lead by quiet example.” Mr. Lillis states that Michele “makes a determined effort in her academic work. She is willing to assist others in a group, often ensuring that work gets completed in a relaxing but engaging manner. During her time at St. Anthony, she has come to recognize her own potential and make a determined effort to achieve. She also demonstrates excellent social skills, a willingness to treat others with respect as well as knowing how to challenge the views of others in tactful way. She has fully taken advantage of the opportunity to prepare herself for work on the college level in all aspects of life. The classroom and the school is a better place to be because of who Michele is and what she does on a daily basis.” Congratulations Michele.
