The 55th St. Anthony High School graduation ceremony of the class of 2010 was held on June 5th at St. Anthony of Padua Church on Montgomery St. in Jersey City. The ceremony of the storied institution was kicked off by salutatorian and Susquehanna-bound senior Nicole Kelly. To a standing room only packed house Ms. Kelly’s salutation was heart felt and honest; she explained the value of her St. Anthony education and touched upon the time well spent at the Jersey City school on 8th Street.

This year’s commencement speaker was Mr. Kevin Shaw. Mr. Shaw was the director for the St. Anthony High School documentary The Street Stops Here. Mr. Shaw’s film follows Naismith Hall of Fame coach Bob Hurley Sr. and the 2007-2008 St. Anthony basketball team on their 32-0 season which ultimately led to the school’s third national championship. Mr. Shaw addressed the class of 2010 with the purpose of having vision. Mr. Shaw stressed to the issues of vision in terms of being true to one’s ethics and morals, being faithful to one’s ideals and having regard for the past, present, and future.

Christopher Wall, the valedictorian of St. Anthony’s class of 2010, who will be attending Villanova University in the Fall addressed parents, faulty, friends, and guests about the importance of friendship and the Friar Family. Chris made reference to the significance of his four years spent at St. Anthony High School as most enlightening. Chris paid homage to his fellow graduates and Alma Mater by explaining the values of a St. Anthony education.

The 58 students of St. Anthony High School’s class of 2010 boosted over 6 million dollars in college scholarships for the 2009-2010 school year. Also, for the 17th straight year each graduate of St. Anthony High School was accepted to college.
